Blending urban culture and comic-book aesthetics, Walter Sené’s paintings form a self-portrait through a small, recurring figure—his alter ego, drawn in a simple and striking graphic style. This curious, colorful character, with a balloon-shaped head and a moonlike face, appears almost exclusively at the center of square compositions where expressions, words, objects, and references converge. Each canvas becomes an emotional snapshot—a mood, a wink to pop culture, or a visual action.
Sené’s “doodle” style carries the spontaneity of adolescent sketches scrawled on school desks—raw, immediate, personal. His visual language becomes a poetic and vulnerable way of observing the world.
His painting is lively and fast-paced. The acrylic colors are bold, sharp, and highly contrasted, fueling the energy, rhythm, and personality of these visual snapshots: dreamy, ironic, humorous, or disillusioned.
Since the late 1980s, Walter has never stopped painting. From large murals in industrial wastelands and nightclubs to more recent, smaller-format canvases, he has inscribed his story—and that of his era—into a freeform, unfiltered reinvention of self-portraiture.
You won’t soon forget that little round face—always watching.
